Competition Clinic this Saturday 10:30-11 a.m.

After practice Saturday, February 25 from 10:30-11 a.m. at Gill Park, Chris is hosting a competition swim clinic.

This will be a great opportunity for anyone new to U.S. Masters swim meets who wants to participate in an upcoming meet or wants a refresher course on swim meet basics. The clinic will cover the following:

• How a meet is run/what to expect
• Starts & turns
• Relays
• What's legal, what's not

Also, be sure to come with questions.

Gill Park Pool Closures

The Gill Park pool will be closed on the following dates and times for lifeguard training:

• Wednesday 2/22: 5:30pm to 7:30pm
• Friday 2/24: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
• Wednesday 2/29: 5:30pm to 7:30pm
• Friday 3/2: 5:30pm to 8:30pm
• Wednesday 3/14: 5:30pm to 7:30pm
• Friday 3/16: 5:30pm to 9:30pm
• Wednesday 3/21: 5:30pm to 7:30pm
• Friday 3/23: 5:30pm to 9:30pm

For those of you keeping count at home, this means there is no Wednesday practice on:

• 2/22
• 2/29
• 3/14
• 3/21

In lieu of practice, coach Adam Parker will be hosting a workshop titled "Achieving Inner Balance".

The pool is closed on Wednesday, there will be no practice.

2012 Team Suit Order

Ordering deadline is 1-31. If you order after that date, expect delivery delays and to pay for shipping.

Call the Kiefer store in Glenview to order, 847-400-5360. Michael is our account rep, but anyone there can take orders. You can add on other items at a discount, like goggles. Samples of the suits are available to try on at the Kiefer store in Glenview.

The team suits will have the Smelts logo, women on the chest, men on the back.

All orders will be shipped together and free of charge and will be distributed at practice.

Gill Park Closure

Gill Park is closed for maintenance this week; practice is scheduled to resume on Saturday, November 12th. 

New Smelts Member to Cross Catalina Channel!

One of our new team members hasn't joined us at Gill for any practices yet, because she is training in the lake for her next marathon swim, the Catalina Channel. Amanda Hunt will set out from Doctor's Cove on Catalina Island the night of October 10, around 11:00pm. She will swim 21 miles which she estimates will take her about 15 hours. The water is expected to be in the low 60s. This swim will be her biggest challenge because of the unpredictable nature of ocean swimming. She grew up in Australia playing tennis and didn't start swimming until age 33. She has done the 28 mile Manhattan Island swim twice, but she expects this swim to be much more difficult. GO AMANDA! GO SMELTS!

Chicago Park District Fall Session

You can now register for the Fall session.  The charge is $35.  Please make sure to tell the person at the front desk that you are registering for the Adult Team Sports / Chicago Smelts. 

Sink or Swim Classic hosted by Libertyville Masters on 11/6

Short course meters meet hosted by Libertyville Masters at Vernon Hills High School. Entries must be received by October 28th.
